Retired school teacher Barbara Munter had always had problems with her back. But after moving from the family home to a new condo, “My back said ‘No, I can’t do this anymore!’” Barbara had already tried cortisone injections, without much success. But she didn’t give up. “It was either live in pain the rest of my life, or seek help and see what else I could do.” After a series of tests, her doctor diagnosed SI joint disruption and recommended SImmetry fusion surgery. Fed up with hurting, Barbara was ready to act. “I just said ‘Go for it—as fast as you can!’” Today Barbara is back to her active self—walking, shopping and socializing. “I feel wonderful. If my back gets tired, I just do my exercises, give myself some time taking it easy, and then I’m fine and ready to go again!”

Susan Humphrey had always enjoyed an active life; gardening, motorcycling, and taking long walks with her husband. But chronic low back pain was making it harder and harder to do the things she loved. She tried different pain medications, cortisone shots and other therapies for years. “But as time went on, nothing helped anymore.” Then she went to a new doctor, who did some testing. “He did the SI joint shots, and I got relief from that. And that’s how he realized I had SI joint trouble.” So when her doctor recommended SImmetry fusion surgery, “it was a pretty quick decision. You get to a point where you say ‘I’m going to do it, because I can’t go on this way.’” Susan was eager to get back on her feet after surgery, but she followed her doctor’s instructions and gave it time. And her patience paid off. Her pain is much better, and her six-month post-op CT scans show solid fusion. “Now I can do things. I feel it at the end of the day if I do too much. But that’s part of the healing process. I’m doing better! I’m gardening and riding motorcycles again.”

Gilberto Rodriquez suffered low back pain for 20 years following a military accident, and tried everything to make it better. “I had lots of therapies— all sorts of medications, from anti-inflammatories to narcotic pain medications.” He also had multiple surgeries. Then his surgeon recommended SImmetry SI joint fusion, and he was immediately surprised by the difference the minimally invasive procedure made. “I woke up expecting the worst, but there was really no pain! I’m really glad I got it done. My SI joint is not popping like it used to. And I have less pain. I highly recommend it—it has changed my life.”
